Virtual Reality (VR) is a new medium. A lot of people think of Virtual Reality as the next big technology which is likely true, it is pretty mind blowing when you are standing on the surface of mars or you are floating through a vein into the heart. What a lot of people don’t realize is that VR is actually the next big medium, like television, smart phones, or radio. VR is a new way to interact with your customers and have your brand interacted with.
Now that VR is becoming more accessible to your customers, it is time to start thinking about how you can leverage this as a brand.
Using Virtual Reality Today
A lot of people look at something like VR and wonder what are you going to do with it RIGHT NOW, how can you use this tool to build something worth your time today.
1. Build An Experience
Want to convince somebody to travel somewhere? Why not take them there virtually. A spherical photo or video are possible to create, in fact we have been experimenting with them for some time. It is not something beyond the realm of possibilities to create something like this.
2. Event Experiences
Create a tour of an event. Let people travel to the grounds and see what it is like there. A cool example is one we did for the Festival du Voyageur. Let people explore your event so next year they can decide to come.
It turns out that the killer application for virtual reality is other human beings. Build a world that people want to inhabit, and the inhabitants will come.
– Charles Stross
3. Build Educational Content
One of the first things I ever did with VR was take a panorama of the mars rover (Here it is on PanoPla) and load it into the Google Cardboard. I handed it to my daughter and watched her travel to another planet. When she took off the helmet and handed it back to me totally amazed, I knew this is what I wanted to do. There is no substitute for sending kids somewhere to learn, it is amazing.
4. Trade Show Exhibits
When you are standing at your table selling your company to potential customers or employees there is absolutely nothing like sending them to the work place virtually. If you are trying to hire employees for a business that has a restricted work place, these potential employees can’t visit you so how can they decide if they like the work environment. Allow them to travel there from the trade show before even leaving your booth.
So how do you actually build this content?
At Bit Space Development we thought long and hard about how to actually work with a medium like VR and build a tool that is easy to use and can actually deliver results. We ended up with PanoPla, a tool for building and sharing your own content. Think of it like the YouTube of Virtual Reality. When you are ready to venture off into the new world of VR let us help you get there, it will be worth your time.
