8The Quest For The (Free) VR PC
This is a project that I have been working on for nearly a year. For a long time I have been building computers, since before it was cool to own your own gaming rig. The first PC that I owned that I could call my own I had to put together myself, before that I had to time share with my family.. which for young Dan was not always the easiest task. While I was in highschool I took system building to an obsessive level and at one point had 30 computers in my basement, which I later donated to local schools.
8Reforging Reality – Virtual Reality TEDx Winnipeg
My topic was where did virtual reality come from and how is it affecting our local industries. At Bit Space Development we have a focus on building interactive virtual reality applications for education, training, and fun. We are working on plenty of client related projects that bring their ideas to life in VR in one way or another, we also have some awesome projects we are building ourselves. The video is finally up, you can watch my talk here.
8iBox Nano – Worlds Smallest, Least Expensive 3D Printer
Kickstarter has no shortage of 3D printers, there is a new one claiming to change the world of 3D printing every other week. The iBox Nano is exceptionally interesting though. Aside from it’s terrible name (I hate when people put i in front of the name) it seems to be a really interesting printer. Instead of using spools of APS or PLA plastic this printer actually uses resin. Because of this it can take up a lot less space and being built off a Raspberry Pi keeps it open and hackable.
8ARDUINO MATERIA 101
I am not only a huge fan of Arduino, but if you have ever visited this site before you will know I am a big fan of 3D printing as well. When I heard that Arduino was developing it’s own sub $1000 3D printer that is modular, open, and available as a kit I was pretty excited. The Materia 101 is designed for beginners, makers, and enthusiasts alike which means that it could end up as the standard for many hobbyists.
8Android Apps Have Come To ChromeOS
I am an avid Chromebook user. I have been using mine for about a year now, it is a great little device that serves several uses for our house. It is my daughter’s primary computer, she plays games and reading exercises on it. My Girlfriend uses the Chromebook for general purpose web browsing and I use it to stream to my Chromecast. The Chromebook is one of the most used computers in my house, so when Google announced at Google I/O this year that they were toying around with the idea of bringing Android apps to Chrome OS I lost my mind.
8CreatorBot-3D 2 color printer
The CreatorBot is the first affordable Two Color commercial, there are many 3D printers on Kickstarter but this one is one of the more interesting machines. I am looking forward to seeing printers of this quality out on the market. You can see more of it on their page.
8Laser Cube – An Enjoyable Laser Engraver and Cutter
I want a laser cutter, although I can easily build prototypes and 3D print all the small cases and stuff I am still lacking something of a professional clean finish. Laser cutters are big, expensive machines that certainly don’t really belong in my apartment (I am sure my girlfriend wouldn’t be happy). The laser cube not only fixes this, but is open source at that.
8Cake Board : BreadBoard Connectable to LEGO®
The Cake Board is a unique bread BreadBoard that will make it a lot easier to do some things while prototyping. This board is not only compatible with LEGO which is just the coolest but it is also double sided which makes stacking the boards or connecting the GPIO pins from a RaspberryPi or Arduino to the board super easy. This board is on Kickstarter right now and you can check out the page here.
8TiddlyBot fun and simple Raspberry Pi Robot
The Raspberry Pi is such a powerful little thing. It empowers people to learn and grow and it is the projects that really make it what it is. The TiddlyBot is one of the best educational projects on Kickstarter right now. It is a small robot that can draw, follow lines, and help with learning about technology. You can check out the TiddlyBot on it’s Kickstarter page.
83D Printing, Welcome To The Future
Welcome to the future. We now live in a time where you can find something interesting on the internet and in a few minutes have a small plastic version of it on your desk. 3D printing is exactly as it sounds, printing something from your computer in 3D. If You’re not somebody who follows technology much beyond the latest phones, TVs and iPads then you may not know much about 3D printers.
